Bundesliga Side Borussia Dortmund Earns Around $11.2M From China Trip

Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund has reportedly earned €10M ($11.2M) "from its trip to China this summer," according to Moritz Leihkamm of BILD. The German football club "played two games in Shanghai and Shenzhen as part of the Int'l Champions Cup preseason tournament." The trip, which included a 4-1 win over ManU and a penalty shootout loss against Man City, was a financial success for the team. Shirt title sponsor Evonik and kit supplier Puma reportedly "paid a large bonus for the trip." In addition, Borussia "received an appearance fee from ICC organizers Relevent Sports." All in all around €10M. The club "has also signed nine regional partners from Asia over the past 15 months," which contribute around €5M ($5.6M) annually into the club's coffers. Dortmund aims to increase its Asian revenue to more €30M ($33.5M) next year. Therefore, the team will return to China in '17 (BILD, 7/28).
