GREG CLARKE is poised to become the new chair of the FA after being nominated for the position by the organization's board. The FA announced that the former Football League chair's nomination "has been unanimously approved and its council will now be asked to endorse the appointment" at a special meeting on Aug. 24. If ratified, Clarke "will be the permanent successor" to GREG DYKE, who stepped down after three years in charge on Thursday (PA, 7/22). ... Former ManU striker BRIAN MCCLAIR has left his role as the Scottish FA's performance director. McClair, who had previously overseen ManU's youth academy, "took up the role in June last year" but says he is stepping down after failing to make "a significant difference" to Scotland's production line of talent. The SFA said in a statement that it had accepted his decision after admitting McClair "had struggled to get to grips with the complexities of the job," ending his 13-month tenure "by mutual consent" (PA, 7/22). ... Twitter VP/North American Media KIRSTINE STEWART "is leaving the company." Stewart "oversaw all of Twitter's media partnerships on the continent in TV, sports, gaming, talent, music, fashion, news and government" (RECODE, 7/21). ... Architectural firm HOK promoted Senior VP & Marketing Principal LANCE CAGE to managing principal (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 7/22).
COACHES/MANAGERS: DAVID MOYES has been appointed as the new manager of Sunderland on a four-year deal. He returns to Premier League management "for the first time since his dismissal" from ManU in April '14. Moyes replaces SAM ALLARDYCE at the Stadium of Light, who was confirmed as the new manager of the England national team on Friday (London INDEPENDENT, 7/23). ... STEVE BRUCE "has left his role as manager" of newly promoted Premier League club Hull City. The 55-year-old, who did not take training on Friday, "had said earlier this summer he was uncertain of his future at Hull," which is up for sale. A breakdown in his relationship with club Vice-Chair EHAB ALLAM contributed to his departure (BBC, 7/22).
