Argentine FA Exec Says Officials Preparing Deal To End Fútbol Para Todos Program

Argentine FA exec Horacio Gennari "revealed details of the agreement that is being prepared to end what was until now the Fútbol Para Todos program and resuscitate the AFA TV project," according to LOS ANDES. Gennari explained that the idea is to "make a channel with a varied offer -- a model like the one used in Chile -- which he did not hesitate to compare to Netflix." He said, "We are very close to having our own channel like AFA TV." Gennari revealed that 70% of the stake in the channel would belong to the AFA and the remaining 30% would belong to Turner Broadcasting and other accompanying businesses. The project "is still subject to approval by AFA execs." He clarified that the organization "will take its time and prioritize the start of the Superliga." AFA Normalization Committee Chair Armando Pérez referred to the request by clubs to end the current TV rights contract with the national government and "explained that he does not believe that football will stop being free." He said, "You have to separate this (AFA) process with the Superliga, with the intention of surpassing what the government provides and being able to be free from the contract the government has with football. The majority of clubs want a sum of money greater than what football needs" (LOS ANDES, 7/20).
