League Notes: AFL Clubs Face Possible Jail Time Over T-Shirt Launchers

Australian Football League clubs "are facing fines and potential jail time for executives if they ignore a contentious Victoria Police ban on using T-shirt guns at matches." At least five Victorian teams that have used T-shirt launchers "have been told to lay down their guns by police and warned they will be seized unless handed in or licensed." Clubs in possession of the devices "have been told to report to their local Divisional Firearm Officer or the Victoria Police Licensing and Regulation Division." Prison terms of up to four years or fines of up to A$37,310 ($28,300) "could be handed to staff" (HERALD SUN, 7/16).

The Pakistan Cricket Board "bought four bulletproof buses in an attempt to convince other teams to shed their security apprehensions and visit the country." Pakistan "has largely been shunned by teams since 2009 when gunmen attacked a bus carrying Sri Lankan cricketers, injuring six players and killing six security personnel and two civilians." The incident has forced Pakistan to play its "home" matches in the UAE and the country "has since remained starved of international cricket at home, barring Zimbabwe's limited-overs tour in 2015" (REUTERS, 7/15).
