Barcelona Renews Qatar Airways Shirt Deal In One-Year, $44M Extension

Barcelona signed a one-year sponsorship deal with Qatar Sports Investments worth around €40M ($44.4M), according to Moisés Llorens of AS. The deal was signed in London and will see the club continue to have Qatar Airways as its shirt sponsor. The agreement "follows months of negotiations." It "does not meet the expectations that Barcelona had a year ago," when the club tentatively agreed to a deal worth €60M ($67M) annually over five years. After winning La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey in '15, Barcelona re-opened talks "hopeful of reaching an improved deal," which "offended" QSI and delayed an agreement until now (AS, 7/13).
