Int'l Champions Cup Organizers See TV Revenues Grow By 40% From Last Year

Int'l Champions Cup organizers have seen a boost in broadcast revenues for the upcoming edition of the summer football tournament. A spokesperson for tournament organizers Relevent Sports told SBD Global that TV revenues have increased by 40% from '15 but declined to provide a specific dollar figure. Last year's tournament generated an eight-figure amount from global media deals, the spokesperson added. This year's competition, the fourth since the ICC's creation in '13, will kick off on July 22 in Shanghai. The tournament will see 17 int'l football clubs -- 16 from Europe and one from Australia -- compete in 19 cities across the U.S./Europe, China and Australia through Aug. 13. The Chinese and Australian competitions are stand-alone tournaments that organizers added in '15. Hong Kong-based Catalyst Media Group, which handles global TV rights for the ICC, has secured 65 individual TV deals, covering 170 territories, for this year's tournament. Relevent Sports and Catalyst Media Group are both divisions of N.Y.-based RSE Ventures. On Monday, U.S. broadcast rights holder ESPN announced that its int'l division signed a three-year deal to broadcast the ICC in Mexico and Central America from '16-19.
