PCB Seeks Lion's Share Of Profit From India, Pakistan Games At ICC Events

Pakistan Cricket Board Chair Shaharyar Khan suggested that the country "should get a higher percentage of profits from games against arch-rivals India" at Int'l Cricket Council events, according to IANS. Khan believes that "this is one of the ways to raise funds after the terror-ravaged country was stripped off hosting international cricket and there are still no signs of the deadlock being broken with the Board of Control for Cricket in India" in terms of bilateral series. In a paper to PCB's directors, Khan said, "The financial income in ICC championships benefits enormously from India-Pakistan clashes. Currently, all members benefit from the windfall from these matches. (The) Chairman proposed that Pakistan should be given a higher percentage of this income." He "also urged the ICC asking them to compensate the board for having to arrange home fixture in other countries." Since '09, when a Sri Lankan team bus was attacked in Lahore, Pakistan has "hosted only one limited overs series." Pakistan has "had to play" most of its home matches in the UAE. The paper said, "Pakistan is the only country that plays its home matches in a third country. This has placed a huge financial burden on Pakistan cricket" (IANS, 7/4).

SCHEDULE REVAMP
: FOX SPORTS reported Cricket Australia "has thrown its weight behind the push to revamp Test and one-day international cricket." The ICC "met for its annual general meeting last week in Scotland." Two of the major changes up for discussion at the conference "were the introduction of a Test Championship and an ODI league." The revamp to the cricketing schedule "has received the backing" of Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland. Sutherland said, "Now is the time for cricket to work collectively on a detailed plan to ensure the sport retains popularity with future generations in a rapidly changing and competitive world" (FOX SPORTS, 7/4).
