Football Notes: Romania To Appoint First Foreign Coach Since 1934

The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) "decided to appoint a foreigner to replace Anghel Iordanescu as the national team's coach." FRF President Razvan Burleanu said, "(The new coach) will be a foreigner." He added that he "had held consultations with the heads of other domestic sports federations (rugby and handball) as they recently also hired foreigners as coaches and advisors." It "will be only the second time" Romania has appointed a foreign national coach after Austrian Josef Uridil, who led the team at the World Cup in '34 (REUTERS, 7/3).

Former Nigerian football club Kano Pillars and Shooting Stars winger Tony Edjomariegwe "has dragged Moroccan club Olympic Safi to FIFA over the non-payment of his salaries and other entitlements for the season he played at the club." A source said, "He has petitioned FIFA after the Moroccans failed to pay him for one season he played for them." Edjomariegwe "joined Olympic Safi on a contract of three and a half years last year January" (AFRICAN FOOTBALL, 7/2).
