Partick Thistle Confirms It Will Receive No Compensation After SPFL Fixtures Fallout

Scottish Premiership side Partick Thistle said that it "will receive no compensation" from the Scottish Professional Football League over the '16-17 season fixtures row, according to Alan Clark of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. Thistle, Motherwell and Hamilton "all claimed to be unfairly treated after each being handed just one home match against Celtic and Rangers before the Premiership split." It "was a decision they claimed will cost them" in excess of £100,000 ($134,300) and also leaves the club at a sporting disadvantage. And after meeting with league chiefs this week, the Firhill club announced that it "will receive no money to make up for having the Old Firm visiting their ground just once each before the league breaks off into two." Thistle said, "Following a meeting today, the SPFL has confirmed to us that there is to be no compensation paid to clubs disadvantaged by the fixture list 2016/17. While clearly disappointed at this outcome, in a wide ranging discussion, it became apparent to us that the current situation had arisen from a breakdown in communications leading to unintended consequences for us and two other clubs. ... We still intend to meet with other Premiership clubs to discuss the best way to ensure fairness for all clubs, thus avoiding any financial or sporting disadvantage happening in future seasons" (DAILY RECORD, 6/29).
