Event Notes: NBA Dallas Mavericks To Take On Phoenix Suns In Mexico City

The NBA Dallas Mavericks will play a game in Mexico City in January. Reports out of Mexico "leaked the news and a source confirmed that the Mavericks will be involved" in an int'l game against the Phoenix Suns. Dallas will be the visitor for the game. The Mavericks have played internationally several times, including preseason games in Mexico City when Eduardo Najera was playing for them. The NBA is expected to release its full schedule in late July or early August (DALLAS MORNING NEWS 6/28).

The NBA and Euroleague Basketball announced that the Oklahoma City Thunder will play two preseason games in October against Spanish Basketball League (ACB) teams Real Madrid and Barcelona, as part of NBA Global Games Europe 2016 presented by BBVA. The Thunder will tip off against Real Madrid on Oct. 3 at the Barclaycard Center before traveling to Barcelona on Oct. 5. Tickets for both games will go on sale July 4 (Euroleague).

A record number of 1,473 athletes from 50 countries have been entered for the 23rd European Athletics Championships to be held in Amsterdam from July 6-10. The previous record was set during the previous edition of the championships in Zürich, Switzerland, in '14 when 1,439 athletes had been entered to compete (European Athletics).
