AEG Emerges As Second Bidder For Proposed New Multi-Purpose Venue In Frankfurt

The Anschutz Entertainment Group "has been outed as the second bidder for a planned new multi-purpose venue in Frankfurt, Germany," according to EISHOCKEY NEWS. The U.S.-based company "has emerged as second bidder for the million-dollar project." In April it became public that Lagardère Sports and construction company BAM Sports form one of two bids for the proposed 13,000-seat venue. AEG is reportedly even willing to spend more than the €150M ($165M) described in the city's tender as maximum costs. Stefan Krämer, the managing director of hockey club Frankfurt Lions and in close contact with AEG, said, "It is a terrific connection. AEG plans a lighthouse project in Frankfurt and is willing to invest €200 million ($221M). They consider Frankfurt the perfect location." Unlike in other locations, AEG is only interested in the operation of the arena and has intentions of taking over the hockey club. Krämer: "I can 100 percent rule that out. AEG is interested in the venue and us as main tenants" (EISHOCKEY NEWS, 6/22).
