Advocacy Group Our Watch To Address AFL Commission, Presidents, CEOs

The Australian Football League Commission and all club presidents, including Collingwood President Eddie McGuire, and CEOs "will be delivered an extraordinary address on prevention of violence against women at their next meetings," according to Michael Gleeson of THE AGE. AFL Chair Mike Fitzpatrick "invited advocacy group Our Watch to separately address the next AFL Commission meeting in July and then talk to all AFL presidents and CEOs about preventing violence against women and children when the club chiefs meet in September." The move comes after McGuire and North Melbourne President James Brayshaw "were both forced to publicly apologise" after they laughed about holding Fairfax journalist Caroline Wilson's head under ice water. Fitzpatrick said, "Last week's comments show much more work there is to be done. The Commission is determined that our code be part of the solution to violence against women, and we want our partnership with Our Watch to deliver real and measurable change" (THE AGE, 6/26).
