Former A-League side Adelaide United Manager JOSEP GOMBAU is "the frontrunner to land" the Olyroos coaching job. He would replace AURELIO VIDMAR after Australia failed to reach the Rio Olympics. Sources said that negotiations with Gombau "are for a long-term deal" to guide the U23 national team through to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics as well as youth tournaments in the Asian Football Confederation over the next four years (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/23). ... Korean former Olympic swimming champion PARK TAE-HWAN is "taking legal steps at home in addition to his international appeal over an Olympic ban." Park's legal representatives said on Thursday that "they have applied for an injunction at the Seoul Eastern District Court on behalf of the swimmer, in a bid to force the Korean Olympic Committee to obey a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in favor of Park" (KOREA HERALD, 6/23). ... Argentine judge MARÍA SERVINI DE CUBRÍA prosecuted three former government execs "for failing to fulfill obligations to the public" in the case investigating the fate of public funds for football broadcasts, whose rights were acquired by the Argentine government in '09. Those being investigated include ANÍBAL FERNÁNDEZ, JORGE CAPITANICHJUAN MANUEL ABAL MEDINA, GABRIEL MARIOTTO and former AFA President LUIS SEGURA (DYN, 6/23). ... A Romanian court has sentenced former Romanian Professional Football League Chair DUMITRU DRAGOMIR "to seven years in prison for tax evasion, embezzlement, and money laundering." The Bucharest Court sentenced Dragomir "in a case related to the sale of TV rights for football matches," causing the league total damages of €5.4M ($6.1M). He and two others "were also ordered to pay damages" totaling 13.3M lei ($3.34M). The sentence "can be appealed." Dragomir "denies wrongdoing" (AP, 6/23).

MIC CHECK: A Portuguese TV station has "demanded an apology from CRISTIANO RONALDO after he threw one of their microphones into a lake." Ronaldo, currently with Portugal at the European Championships, "became annoyed with a Correio da Manha reporter." The reporter asked Ronaldo "whether he was prepared for that afternoon's Group F game against Hungary." Ronaldo subsequently "took the journalist's microphone out of his hand and threw it into a nearby lake" (London INDEPENDENT, 6/23).
