Super Rugby side Western Force sacked coach MICHAEL FOLEY. Queensland Reds coach MATT O'CONNOR and Crusaders coach TODD BLACKADDER "loom as potential candidates" for the job. Foley, a World Cup-winning former Wallaby, "was shown the door a month out from the end of his fourth season" with the club, "prompting tears" from players but a firm "planning for the future" message from head office. Foley coached the side to its best season in '14, with nine wins and an eighth-place finish, "but could not better the effort." The Force "sit at the bottom of the Australasian group this season with a competition-low 21 tries." Other options include former Brumbies coach LAURIE FISHER, "now happily ensconced in England with Gloucester" and Scotland's assistant coach MATT TAYLOR (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/16). ... NHL Montreal Canadiens Exec VP & COO KEVIN GILMORE is leaving the team to pursue other opportunities. He recently played a role in TV negotiations that led to a 12-year French-language deal with RDS and an English-language deal with Sportsnet (Canadiens). Gilmore's departure highlights a "shakeup at the top of the Canadiens' management." He was "responsible for several key areas of the hockey team's business, including corporate sales, marketing and sales, communications and also oversaw the development of major projects like the 24CH reality-TV show" (MONTREAL GAZETTE, 6/16). ... The World Anti-Doping Agency has appointment of GÜNTER YOUNGER as the agency’s new director of intelligence & investigations. Younger, who will be stepping down from his role as head of the cybercrime division with the Bavarian Landeskriminalamt (BLKA), will assume his new position in Montreal on Oct. 3 (WADA).
