WWE Signs Multi-Year Partnership With Chinese Streaming Service PPTV

World Wrestling Entertainment has agreed to a multi-year partnership with Chinese streaming service PPTV. As part of the deal, which was officially announced on Wednesday, PPTV will stream WWE's Raw and SmackDown shows in Mandarin across its digital and mobile platforms. WWE declined to release the exact length of the agreement or its financial terms. WWE also said that short-form content will be made available on PPTV. The streaming service will use its social media platforms on WeChat and Sina Weibo to share WWE content with fans in China. It will also launch and manage a new WWE website in China. A WWE spokesperson told SBD Global the deal with PPTV is the first exclusive media deal for the U.S. entertainment company in China. The first Raw and SmackDown shows will be available on demand on PPTV and PPTV Sports starting June 28. In addition, WWE announced it will return to China with its first live event in more than three years this September. The Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai will host WWE Live 2016 China on Sept. 10. To further increase its appeal in the world's most populous country, Ben Wang became the first Chinese to sign a developmental contract with WWE.
