BeIN Sports, Canal+ Score Deals With LFP To Show Ligue 1, Ligue 2 Matches In Public

The French Professional Football League (LFP) announced the conclusion of separate deals with Canal+ and beIN Sports permitting both channels to broadcast Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 matches from ’16-20 in collective locations (bars, hotels, cinemas, hospitals and public establishments). The deals complement the rights that were acquired in ’14 by Canal+ and beIN Sports (LFP). L’ÉQUIPE reported LFP General Dir Didier Quillot said, “All of our domestic rights for the 2016-2020 period have now been marketed.” The LFP did not announce the “financials of the agreement.” In ’14, the ’16-20 rights to Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 were sold for a record amount of €748.5M. Quillot: “We are far behind the big European nations concerning television rights for the 2016-2020 period. We still have work to do” (L’ÉQUIPE, 6/14).
