ManU's Mock 'Independence Day' Trailer Draws Criticism From Supporters

ManU showed off the "latest fruits" of its global partnership with film distributor 20th Century Fox with "a bizarre football-film collaboration trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence," according to Oliver Todd of the London DAILY MAIL. The 85-second clip "has been ridiculed by fans online for its combination of cringe-inducing dialogue and amateur acting skills from some of the club's star players." Captain Wayne Rooney leads the ManU contingent "in a battle against an alien army with Juan Mata, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Daley Blind also starring." The five ManU players featured "act alongside Hollywood star Jeff Goldblum in the short trailer clip." The trailer ends with Rooney, Mata, Young, Smalling and Blind "returning to Old Trafford for a game after seeing off their alien opponents in a clip that reflects the action of the sci-fi blockbuster." The Premier League club "produced a similar tie-in video for the X-Men Apocalypse film earlier this year but the latest effort has come in for plenty of criticism from supporters online" (DAILY MAIL, 6/14).
