La Liga Breaks Attendance Record Again As 13.97 Million Attend First, Second-Tier Matches

With six Spanish second division promotion playoff games still to be played, the '15-16 La Liga season has already set a new attendance record. Turnout for games rose to record levels, with total crowds numbering 13,966,441 people between La Liga and the second division. Last year, a total of 13,546,935 attended games. This is the second consecutive year that the all-time attendance record has been broken. The total across the top two tiers included 10,497,867 fans attending La Liga's 38 matchdays. The season's peak occurred with a total of 318,812 fans on the 31st matchday, which was headlined by the match between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the Camp Nou (La Liga).
