German Winter Sports Resorts Oberhof, Altenberg Bid On World Championships

German winter sports resorts Oberhof and Altenberg "are bidding for the biathlon and bobsleigh & skeleton world championships, respectively," according to the SID. The Int'l Biathlon Union announced that Oberhof "is on the shortlist for the biathlon world championships in '20 and '21." The IBU "will select a host city at its next congress" from Sept. 1-4. The shortlist also includes Nové Město (Czech Republic), Antholz (Italy) and Pokljuka (Slovakia). Russian city Tyumen "is only bidding for the '21 event." Oberhof last hosted the biathlon world championships in '04. Altenberg is in the running to host the bobsleigh & skeleton world championship in '20. The Int'l Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federations "will select a host city on Sunday." Altenberg's "only opponent is Swiss resort town St. Moritz." Altenberg last hosted the event in '08 (SID, 6/7).
