Event Notes: David Robinson To Headline NBA's Basketball Without Borders Down Under

Retired NBA player David Robinson "will headline the NBA's Basketball Without Borders camp at Dandenong and Geelong from June 23-26." He won two championships with the San Antonio Spurs, including the '03 title when Australian Andrew Gaze was a team member, and he "was named in the NBA's top 50 players of all time." While the camp will see NBA players and coaches work with 45 teenage boys from 17 Asian region countries, Robinson and other NBA visitors "will also join in several public appearances to be confirmed closer to the camp." Current Milwaukee Bucks player Khris Middleton will also visit and join current Australian NBA players Patty Mills, Aron Baynes, Joe Ingles and Dante Exum, who will appear at the camp "as they prepare for the Boomers' Rio Olympic selection camp in Melbourne from July 5" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 6/7).

Serie A side Juventus "will play a friendly in Hong Kong against South China AA." The team's preseason already included the Int'l Champions Cup against Melbourne Victory and Tottenham Hotspur, and it "will also return to Hong Kong for the first time" since '08. The match will take place on July 30, and tickets go on sale on June 23 (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 6/7).

Any Currency could be stripped of his win in the Glenfarclas Chase at March's Cheltenham Festival after "traces of a prohibited substance were found in a urine sample taken after the race." The 13-year-old, trained by Martin Keighley, had Triamcinolone Acetonide in his system. The cortisone substance "can be used legally to treat horses, but must have cleared their system by racedays" (BBC, 6/7).
