Brumbies Open To Government Audit As Super Rugby Side Tries To Rebuild Reputation

Super Rugby club Brumbies "have thrown open their doors" to an Australian Capital Territory government audit of its finances as the club "looks to rebuild its reputation after one of the darkest periods in its history," according to Chris Dutton of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. Interim Brumbies CEO Phil Thomson "has started meeting with key stakeholders in the hope of mending relationships, including trying to rebuild a partnership with the University of Canberra." A falling out between former Brumbies CEO Michael Jones and departed university vice-Chancellor Stephen Parker "triggered a turbulent period for the Super Rugby club and strained relationships." Thomson's discussions "have included allowing the government to send in auditors to their base at the University of Canberra to examine finances and the club's stability." Thomson: "It will probably take a month or so for them to finalize their report. It's an audit process, so they're looking at a number of things throughout the organization from financials to contracts and all of those sorts of things." The Australian Rugby Union "is still working with the government to host a Test between the Wallabies and Argentina in Canberra in September next year" (SMH, 6/4).
