Media Notes: Sony Pictures Networks India Acquires Premier Futsal League Rights

Sony Pictures Networks India announced it "acquired the rights to broadcast the inaugural edition of Premier Futsal League." The multi-city franchise-based league "would be played across India" from July 15-24. As part of the agreement, SPN "would broadcast all Premier Futsal League matches live in English, Hindi and Bengali on Sony Six, Sony ESPN and Sony AATH." Digital consumers "would be able to stream the matches live on Sony LIV" (ECONOMIC TIMES, 5/27).

COMMEMORATIVE DOC: To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Liverpool winning the Premier League and FA Cup double, a feature-length documentary will be aired exclusively on LFCTV GO. The documentary "Double Winners '86 -- On The March With Kenny's Army," released exclusively to LFCTV GO subscribers on May 31, relives what still remains one of Liverpool's greatest achievements. The 90 minute documentary, narrated by ITV Sport's Clive Tyldesley, captures in-depth interviews with those who played a key role in the team -- Kenny Dalglish, captain Alan Hansen and a host of squad members including Jan Molby, Jim Beglin and Craig Johnston (Liverpool).

CSL BROADCAST LAWSUIT: LeSports is reportedly "set to sue Hebtv.com for unauthorized broadcasting of the Chinese Super League." In February, LeSports "bought an exclusive Internet broadcasting package from Ti'ao Dongli" in a deal reportedly worth 2.7B yuan ($410M). However, Hebtv.com, an online platform owned by Hebei Radio & TV Station, has "reportedly shown live CSL games without any authorization from LeSports." LeSports is going to claim more than 5M yuan ($760,000) "in compensation" for its loss caused by this infringement (YUTANG SPORTS, 5/31).
