Caribbean Premier League Renews Title Sponsorship Deal With Hero MotoCorp Until '18

The Caribbean Premier League has renewed its title sponsorship deal with motorcycle and scooter manufacturer Hero MotoCorp. The India-based company, which calls itself the world's largest producer of two-wheeled vehicles, signed on as the cricket competition's title sponsor last year and will continue to lend its name to the event until '18. CPL declined to disclose financial terms of the deal. The West Indies' recent World Cup success -- both men and women's teams won their respective T20 titles -- is expected to boost interest in the upcoming tournament, CPL CEO Damien O’Donohoe told SBD Global in a recent interview. Hero CPL 2016 will be the competition's fourth edition since it began play in '13 and run from June 29-Aug. 7. It will also, for the first time, feature matches on U.S. soil. The competitions six franchises -- Guyana Amazon Warriors, Barbados Tridents, St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Trinbago Knight Riders, St. Loucia Zouks and Jamaica Tallawahs -- will play a total of six matches in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. between July 28-31. "We believe there’s a diaspora market that’s going to turn out in force," O'Donohoe said. "We also believe that we, in time, will turn some American baseball fans into Twenty20 cricket lovers." CPL's in-house sponsorship team, which is headed by Jamie Stewart, brokered the three-year contract extension, a league spokesperson said. Hero's sports sponsorship portfolio also includes deals in golf, field hockey and football.
