Media Notes: Sony Pictures Networks India Acquires 2016 Copa América Centenario Rights

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) acquired exclusive TV and digital rights for the 2016 Copa América Centenario "for the Indian sub-continent." This year's Copa is a Centenario, "marking the 100th year of the South American football competition." The tournament "will be streamed live online on Sony LIV." SPN "also has the rights for Euro 2016." It "will be streaming the tournament on Sony LIV" (MEDIANAMA, 5/25).

The South African Broadcasting Corp. announced the acquisition of the rights for Euro 2016 for its TV and radio platforms. SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng said, "The acquisition of these rights is aimed at ensuring that SABC Sport will continue to deliver high quality football matches to our fans during the PSL off-season" (SABC).

The European Broadcasting Union and Eutelsat Communications announced the signature of capacity contracts on four Eutelsat satellites. The capacity will be used to carry live broadcast signals of flagship events in the sports calendar, including all major European football championships and this year's summer sports events. Using the satellites, the EBU will extend its footprint to new regions, notably Africa with a full-time lease for capacity (EBU).

The Community of Madrid HQ will on Friday night award fans of either Real Madrid or Atlético Madrid fans by displaying that team's colors on its exterior. From 10pm to midnight local time, the team whose supporters "generate more excitement on Twitter" will be lit up in that team's colors. The official accounts of both the clubs and UEFA will join @ComunidadMadrid "to encourage the competition." Twitter, through its @TwitterSpain, @TwitterEspanol and @TwitterSports accounts, will "invite users to join the competition" (EP, 5/26).
