La Liga Side Granada Owner Gino Pozzo Sells Club To China's Desports For $42M

The Pozzo family is "reportedly set to sell" La Liga side Granada to Chinese investors, according to FOOTBALL ITALIA. The group "currently runs three clubs" in top European Leagues --  it also owns Serie A side Udinese and Premier League club Watford -- despite buying Granada in '09 when it was in Spain's third tier. Spain's Ideal reported Granada Owner Gino Pozzo completed the sale to Chinese group Desports in London on Saturday. It would bring €37M ($42M) into the Pozzo family coffers "and allow them to have the pick of Granada players to move to their other clubs." Before it can be made official, "they must wait for the first payment to be completed in 15 days" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 5/22). In Granada, Rafael Lamelas reported the club "has been sold." On Saturday, the acquisition was completed in London. Pozzo "was completely seduced by what he was offered and the guarantees on the table" (IDEAL, 5/22). The EFE reported current Granada President Enrique Pina "had announced that he had found a Spanish investor who was going to communicate to Pozzo his intention to match any offer the club received," but his "departure from the club is inevitable after the sale to Desports" (EFE, 5/22).
