Formula E Secures New Official Partner, Title Sponsor For Saturday's Berlin ePrix

Formula E has agreed to a new partnership with Italian electricity company Enel as the championship's official power partner. The deal, which was announced in Rome on Tuesday, will begin with the Berlin ePrix on Saturday and run through the end of '17-18 season. Formula E declined to unveil financial details of the agreement. The contract also includes an option for a further extension. Enel is expected to receive a large logo presence, similar to the series' other official partners, at every race for the next two seasons, as well as the final three races of this year. It will also use its renewable energy technologies to optimize the series' clean energy generation, distribution and managment. In addition, Enel will set up charging stations for fans at each ePrix to recharge their own electric vehicles. As a result of the partnership, this weekend's Berlin ePrix will be the first carbon neutral motor race. The fully electric racing series currently generates around 30,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year, which is equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions of more than 2,700 U.S. homes, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Enel initially entered the sport through a local partnership deal at the inaugural Mexico City ePrix in March.

LOCAL SUPPORT: Formula E has also secured BMW i as the official title sponsor for round eight of the '15-16 season. As part of the one-off deal, Saturday's race will be called the BMW i Berlin ePrix. Formula E's second stop in the German capital will take place on a new 2.03km temporary street circuit after last year's venue, Tempelhof Airport, was unavailable this season. BMW i has been an official partner of the series since its inaugural '14-15 season. The Munich-based car company currently provides Formula E with a fleet of electric and hybrid vehicles. BMW i also supplies the series' safety car and medical car through its i8 and i3 models. The brand replaces DHL, which held the title sponsorship at the inaugural race.
