Arsenal is "routinely mocked for finishing fourth"-- and it could theoretically happen again -- but it looks certain to be No. 1 in one Premier League table this season: the prize-money list, according to Nick Harris of the London DAILY MAIL. The team is first in a Mail on Sunday forecast of TV and commercial earnings to be paid by the league to the 20 clubs and is expected to collect around £100M ($143M).
Man City, Tottenham and ManU -- all around the £96M ($137M) to £98M ($140M) mark -- are also "expected to bank more prize money" than miracle title winner Leicester, although the Foxes -- expected to earn around £93M ($133M) -- should make more than their final-day opponent Chelsea, about £89M ($127M). These totals "will be ratified by the league soon and finishing positions will cause change," but the table "provides a guide, give or take a few million." Each club "gets a share of domestic TV income, foreign income and commercial deal income and then differing amounts based on merit (finishing position) and times shown live on TV" (DAILY MAIL, 5/14).
