FA To Bail Out FIFA President Gianni Infantino's Rash Million Dollar Promises

The FA is "coming to the rescue of FIFA President Gianni Infantino by giving back millions of pounds worth of overseas development aid to Zurich," according to Charles Sale of the London DAILY MAIL. Infantino made "rash promises during his election campaign" about every FIFA territory receiving $5M over four years to develop the sport. But he "rowed back" from those 50% increases across the board at the UEFA Congress this week and "made a plea for the wealthy European countries to bail him out." England is the "first country to publicly support Infantino over his U-turn." FA Chair Greg Dyke said, "I was in favor of the big countries not getting anything and it's not a massive amount of money in our terms. We were already discussing increasing our budget for overseas development. The bigger nations have a responsibility to help the smaller ones. ... The problem for FIFA is if you're going to give more money out, you have to make sure it is given out properly and used properly. It's a lot harder to develop football in Pakistan than in the Turks & Caicos islands" (DAILY MAIL, 5/4).
