Pro14 rugby side Racing 92 suspended MARTIN CASTROGIOVANNI as "part of an investigation into photographs showing the prop partying with members of the Paris Saint-Germain squad in Las Vegas" last weekend and after "he told the club he could not play" in Sunday’s Champions Cup semifinal against Leicester. Castrogiovanni "made himself unavailable for the contest due to a need to attend a family matter in Argentina" (London GUARDIAN, 4/27). ... Super League rugby side Leeds Rhinos player KEVIN SINFIELD "announced he will retire from rugby at the end of the season." He "captained Leeds for 13 years and won seven Grand Finals, three World Club Challenges and two Challenge Cups." Sinfield said, "I have always said that some day I will need to get a proper job and that day has now come" (BBC, 4/27). ... Two-time Olympic 400m hurdles champion FELIX SANCHEZ "announced his retirement on Tuesday." The 38-year-old from the Dominican Republic "won two world titles and two Olympic titles during his international career, which spans back to 1999" (IAAF). ... Liverpool defender MAMADOU SAKHO "decided not to challenge his failed drugs test, meaning that the 26-year-old faces a lengthy ban." The France center back "is understood to have opted not to request that his B sample be tested" after a sample taken after the Europa League tie at ManU last month revealed traces of a fat-burning drug (LONDON TIMES, 4/27). ... RAFAEL NADAL has been given the honor of "leading out his country at the Rio Games this summer," four years after "suffering one of his biggest disappointments" when he was unable to carry the flag for Spain for the 2012 Olympics. Nadal was selected to carry the flag in London but "had to pull out of the Games because of injury" (London INDEPENDENT, 4/27).

MOVING MERCH: Former rugby player JARRYD HAYNE's future with the NFL San Francisco 49ers "might be uncertain, but he remains a remarkable NFL merchandise seller." The NFL Players Association released its list of the 50 players who "generate the most sales of officially licensed NFL merchandise." Hayne came in 43rd, "beating many of the sport's established stars" including N.Y. Jets cornerback DARRELLE REVIS, San Diego Chargers quarterback PHILIP RIVERS and Buffalo Bills running back LESEAN MCCOY. The "top seller" was New England Patriots quarterback TOM BRADY (AAP, 4/26).

OPENING ACT: ALICIA KEYS will become the "first singer to play live at the opening ceremony of the Champions League Final." The show will see the singer "perform to around 80,000 people in Milan's Stadio Giuseppe Meazza" on May 28 and to TV audiences in over 220 countries. Keys, who will be debuting new music in the show, said that playing to such a huge audience was "pretty insane" (BBC, 4/27).
