Tickets For Leicester City's Final Home Game Sell For As Much As $21,000 A Pair

Tickets to watch Premier League leader Leicester City's final home game "are being offered" for £15,000 ($21,400) a pair through an online re-sale website, according to the BBC. The May 7 match against Everton, "which could see the Foxes become champions, sold out in 90 minutes on Monday." But within hours, individual tickets were being advertised for more than £3,000 ($4,300) each and a pair for "much more." The club said it would "take action against any ticket touting" or attempts to "resell tickets above face value." Leicester is seven points clear of second place Tottenham with five games left. It has "already secured Champions League football" and needs three more wins to guarantee the Premier League title. One fan who contacted BBC Sport said that he had "missed out on a ticket, despite having a membership package and having been to all but three home games this season." The supporter said, "This season is something we never expected and will probably never happen again in our lifetimes. Now I won't be there to potentially celebrate us winning the Premier League. It is a bit of a 'here's what you could have won' moment."

FANS SPEAK OUT: A number of fans responded to the club's Facebook post with complaints:

Ben Dunkley: "Absolute joke, what a waste of money spending £75 ($107) on a gold membership."

Adie Wheat: "Gutted. Been all season, 1968 my first game never miss a season. Silver member can't get a ticket for the most important game - winning the league" (BBC, 4/11).

HOT TICKET: In London, Sean Gibson reported one online reseller quoted a pair of tickets at £15,738.28 ($22,400), with the "cheapest home seating on the site" priced at £5,200 ($7,400) for a pair. If you "wanted to go on your own, the cheapest single ticket" was selling on Tuesday morning at £3,308.29 ($4,700). Like many teams, Leicester operates a "graduated membership policy that allows for priority access to buying tickets." Some fans were "left disappointed, though, after having paid to join one of the lower ranks of membership to whom the Everton tickets were never made available," having already sold out. Leicester's King Power Stadium has a capacity of 32,262 and has averaged an attendance of 32,020 at home games this season -- the 12th-highest in the Premier League (TELEGRAPH, 4/12).
