A High Court in Jos, Nigeria sacked Nigeria Football Federation President AMAJU PINNICK and his board. The court "subsequently ordered that Pinnick be replaced" by CHRIS GIWA at least until the next hearing of the case. The court has further instructed that the Federal Government of Nigeria recognize and deal with Giwa as the president of the NFF (AFRICA NEWS, 4/8). ... ESPN appointed FREDDY ROLÓN VP and GM of ESPN Deportes. He will report to ESPN Int'l Exec VP & Managing Dir RUSSELL WOLFF. In his new role, Rolón will oversee all aspects of the ESPN Deportes business including ESPN Deportes TV. He will work closely with ESPN Audio Senior VP TRAUG KELLER on the ESPN Deportes Radio business (ESPN). ... The Canadian Olympic Committee said that former Olympic skier JEAN-LUC BRASSARD "abruptly stepped down" as Canada's chef de mission less than four months before the Rio Games. The COC said he stepped down for "business and personal reasons" and named Olympic cycling Medalist CURT HARNETT as his replacement for the Aug. 5-21 Rio Games (REUTERS, 4/11). ... Sports digital and broadcast firm deltatre appointed FABIO GALLO as its head of digital products. Gallo will be working from deltatre’s London office, taking on lead responsibility for the vision, strategy and deployment of deltatre’s digital products across its market portfolio, and reporting directly to Chief Product & Marketing Officer CARLO DE MARCHIS (deltatre). ... La Liga side Getafe "parted company" with coach FRAN ESCRIBA. The club announced in a brief statement that it split with the 50-year-old former Elche boss, "who was only appointed last June." Getafe is "second bottom of the table, two points from safety with six games to go" (PA, 4/11). ... ALLISTER COETZEE is expected to be named as South Africa's new rugby coach on Tuesday, four months after the departure ofHEYNEKE MEYER and two months before a three-test series against Ireland. The terms of Coetzee’s appointment will be made known "when he is presented at a televised, live media conference in Johannesburg" (REUTERS, 4/11).
