Fertilizer Bombs Disrupt Ligue 1 Side Olympique De Marseille Training Session

Wednesday’s training for Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille “was a little tense” after two fertilizer bombs exploded outside the club’s Robert Louis-Dreyfus training center, according to 20 MINUTES. While the players and staff were on the field, “a loud explosion was heard, turning everyone’s attention toward the noise.” No one was hurt and training ended normally, but a banner found hanging with the initials of club Owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus and President Vincent Labrune that read, “MLD and VLB Clear Out” was “quickly removed by security” (20 MINUTES, 4/6). In a separate piece, 20 MINUTES reported “after the decision by the club to keep Manager Míchel, supporters have turned

on the club and are likely to mobilize” at the Bordeaux vs. Marseille match in Marseille this weekend. In response, the Police Prefecture decided to “reinforce security surrounding the Vélodrome stadium.” There has been unrest between supporters and the club for several weeks and on the night of April 1, the home of Labrune “was spray painted by ultras.” After two fertilizer bombs exploded outside the training center on Wednesday, one ultra said, “Our bleachers are not filled with ‘gentle lambs,’ it is just an expression of the collective being fed up” (20 MINUTES, 4/6).
