Media Notes: German Football League Partners With Amazon For VOD Service

The German Football League (DFL) has secured a new partner for its video-on-demand service in Amazon. Selected on-demand formats will soon be available in the Amazon Digital Video Store in Germany. The formats include “Die größten Spiele” [The Greatest Matches] and “Legenden der Liga” [Legends of the League]. DFL launched its VOD service in September together with its media partner Sky. As with Sky, the agreement with Amazon Video will run until the end of the '16-17 season (DFL).

MEDIA BRIEFS ...
The Board of Control for Cricket in India's professional relationship with cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar "could come to an end anytime in April-May when his contract comes up for renewal." Gavaskar "has been a long-standing associate of the board's internally-held production house that hires its own commentators on a full-time basis apart from professionals who are hired by the broadcasters on a series-by-series basis." Sources said that the board's rant is that the fee paid to Gavaskar "is astronomical" vis-a-vis the fee for which some others are ready to commentate for the BCCI panel. While other commentators are paid anywhere between Rs 35,000 to Rs 1 lakh ($526-$1,500) per day for their services, Gavaskar "was reportedly paid eight times that amount for a day's commentary." Another sticking point for the BCCI -- although some of its officials "do not buy it" -- is that Gavaskar has not "toed the board's views in his role as commentator" (TIMES OF INDIA, 4/5).

The Danish FA (DBU) appointed data agency Two Circles "to help it develop better understanding for both its fans and its grassroots players." The DBU "announced plans to put data-driven insight at the heart of its fan and player engagement, and is looking to Two Circles to assist in the process" (SOCCEREX, 4/6).
