French horse racing is “looking to reconnect with the public” with help from a new media agreement, according to Laurence Girard of LE MONDE. French racing associations confirmed on Monday “a three-year broadcast agreement with TF1 and LCI.” They also “unveiled the EpiqE Series campaign,” under which the racetracks have grouped together 14 races with the “highlights being the l'Arc de Triomphe Prix and the Prix d’Amérique.” Since Jan. 1, horse racing has had “no television outlet.” France 3 and L’Équipe 21, who shared the retransmissions of the preferred races, “officially ended its coverage” last year. Only the pay-TV channel Equidia Live, “financed by the racing industry, continues to broadcast all races.” TF1 Group “took the reins for free distribution” on Tuesday when LCI changed over to a free-to-air channel. The launch of the EpiqE Series “marks a turning point for racing associations.” Le Trot and France Galop agreed to “merge under the same brand of 14 events.” The idea is to create a “racing championship” to give horse racing a “sporty dimension” (LE MONDE, 4/5).
