Scottish Championship Side Rangers Fans Vote To Unite In Single Body

Scottish Championship side Rangers fans "have voted overwhelmingly to unite in a single body of supporter interest," according to Gary Ralston of the Scotland DAILY RECORD. More than 90% of season ticket holders, Rangers Supporters Trust and Rangers First members have given their backing to Club 1872. It will be an "independent, arms length group" with an ambition to attract at least 20,000 members in the first instance, raising more than £5M ($7.2M) a year to spend on shares and other club projects. If Club 1872 grows to control 25% of the club, it would hold the power to "okay or veto any major changes at boardroom level," with fans "powerless to act on many key decisions" taken in the running of the club in recent seasons. Club 1872 will offer a range of membership options, still to be announced, but the "most popular" is likely to be a monthly subscription of £18.72 ($26.92) (DAILY RECORD, 3/30).
