Football Notes: FIFA Fines Four Clubs For Breaking Third-Party Rules

FIFA said on Tuesday that four clubs have been fined for breaching rules which ban third parties from "influencing transfer policy or from owning players." Dutch club FC Twente was fined 185,000 Swiss francs ($191,450), Brasileiro side Santos 75,000 Swiss francs ($77,615), Belgium's St. Truiden 60,000 Swiss francs ($62,000) and La Liga side Sevilla 55,000 Swiss francs ($56,918) by FIFA's disciplinary committee. In all cases, FIFA said that the clubs were "found to be liable for entering into contracts that enabled third parties to influence the club's independence in employment and transfer-related matters" (REUTERS, 3/29).

La Liga side Real Betis shareholder Juan Soria Hurtado, who claimed that there was "falsification of documents" during a shareholders meeting in September, presented his claim to a Sevilla court, which will rule on the matter. He is alleging that a vote during a shareholders meeting was rigged, as "more than 20 of the members who supposedly voted were dead" (AS, 3/29).

Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG launched a series of partnerships with 12 regional football schools, "in the hope of promoting the sport to children." The club is launching the "Infinite Future" program with 12 schools spread across the Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Shanxi, Hubei and Sichuan provinces. The club will invite high-profile players and coaches to "give guidance to both teachers and students at the schools" (SOCCEREX, 3/29).

Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia will unveil a statue of former European footballer of the year Hristo Stoichkov at its stadium. Stoichkov, "considered Bulgaria's all-time greatest player," won three league titles and four national cups with CSKA before joining Barcelona in '90 (REUTERS, 3/29).
