FA Considering Adding Golf Course To St. George's Park Facility

The FA has commissioned a survey "to see whether there is demand for a nine-hole golf course to be built at England’s training base, St. George’s Park," according to Jason Burt of the London TELEGRAPH. If approved, the plan "could also see 'elite’ professional golfers encouraged to use St. George’s Park for their own training with indoor and outdoor facilities and simulators." St. George’s Park, in Burton-on-Trent, has been "built as a dedicated football site, the base for all 24 England teams at various levels," and was opened in '12 at a cost of £105M. England players have "complained in the past that it can be ‘boring’ based at St. George’s Park and they would certainly be among those who would welcome a golf course being built although such a facility would appear to go against the ethos of a football centre" (TELEGRAPH, 3/22).
