Dutch broadcaster NOS will continue to air the Olympics through '20 after "reaching a deal Monday to sub-license the rights in the Netherlands from Discovery Communications," according to the AP. Discovery, which owns Eurosport and holds the European rights through '24, said that "the deal covers the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics." Terms "were not disclosed." NOS will sub-license the TV and radio rights, "as well as digital rights to content on its linear TV channel." Eurosport will have "exclusive rights to two key sports" for the 2018 and 2020 Games, including ice hockey in PyeongChang. NOS will be able to "broadcast highlights of those sports" (AP, 3/21). BROADBAND TV NEWS' Robert Briel reported the deal will make the 2018 and 2020 Olympic Games "available to Dutch viewers on both NOS and Eurosport, creating an offering across linear channels and digital products." The announcement follows a deal announced last month between Discovery and the BBC. The deal means that "NOS will sub-license" from Discovery Communications free-to-air audio-visual and radio rights for the 2018 and 2020 Olympic Games. NOS said that it will broadcast 10 hours a day live in '18 and 14 hours in '20. Discovery "keeps the streaming rights exclusively, but NOS can offer its broadcast content, live and highlights, on its digital platforms, including NOS.nl and the NOS app" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 3/21).
