European Cycling Union, European Broadcasting Union Sign Rights Deal

The European Cycling Union (UEC) and the European Broadcasting Union on Monday signed an agreement “for the broadcasting rights to the 2016 European Cycling Championships,” according to MEDIA SPORTIF. With this agreement, “the EBU now has the exclusive worldwide distribution rights” to the road, track, all-terrain, BMX and cyclo-cross European Championships. The EBU “already owns the rights to the 2018 European Championships for the Olympic disciplines” (road, track, BMX and all-terrain) that will take place on Aug. 1-12. French telecom France Télévisions will broadcast the 2016 Road European Championships, taking place on Sept. 14-18 in Nice and Monaco “for the first time.” France 3 “will broadcast the women’s elite on Sept. 17, and the men’s elite on Sept. 18.” The competitions will be "broadcast live" by EBU members France Télévisions, NOS (Netherlands), TV2 (Denmark), NRK (Norway) and Eurosport which will "broadcast to its subscribers in 54 countries" (MEDIA SPORTIF, 3/16).
