Football Notes: Player From Fourth-Tier Spanish Club Claims He Was Offered Bribe

Amateur football is "under threat in Spain." The board of directors at fourth-tier club CD Acero reported "some suspicious goings-on to prosecutors which, if proven, will shake lower-division football to its foundations." The events relate to CD Acero's match against Recambios Colón. One of the team's players, goalkeeper Oumar Diaby, said, "A teammate told me, 'We'll give you 500 euros to concede a goal.' I told him, 'No. I don't want any problems. That's money now but it will follow me for the rest of my life. Don't ask me to do that'" (MARCA, 3/10).

The Federação Paulista de Futebol, which manages all the official football tournaments within the state of São Paulo in Brazil, has brought in Sportradar's Fraud Detection System to cover over 200 football matches in '16 and '17. This partnership marks the first time that any match-fixing detection service has been employed by a South American football rights holder. Under the terms of the agreement, the FDS will monitor matches in the Campeonato Paulista (which includes teams like Corinthians, Santos and São Paulo), as well as youth and women's competitions in the state (Sportradar).
