Korean Olympic Committee President KIM JUNG-HAENG and Korea Council of Sport for All Head KANG YOUNG-JOONG "were appointed as co-heads of the tentatively named Korean Sport & Olympic Committee." The KOC, "which oversees the country's sports in general and elite athletes for competitive events, and the KOCOSA, which aims to promote daily sports and a healthy lifestyle for every South Korean, have been working on a merger for months." Kim and Kang "will serve as co-chairs until the new president is elected on Oct. 31." They both said that "they will strive for development in sports at all levels" (YONHAP, 3/7). ... BERNARD HINAULT, the last French rider to win the Tour de France, "will leave his public relations position with" the Amaury Sport Organisation after this year’s Tour de France. Tour officials confirmed Monday that Hinault, 61, "will finish out the Tour this summer." He "joined in a PR role in the 1990s." Tour officials said that "they have not yet considered who might replace Hinault in the PR role" (VELO NEWS, 3/7).

GREY STEPS DOWN: Scottish Golf CEO HAMISH GREY “stepped down,” just three months after he was appointed to lead the new unified body. The “shock development,” which had been “agreed between the parties,” was announced ahead of the first Scottish Golf annual meeting in Glasgow on Sunday. Grey, who succeeded the late IAN HUME, steered the SGU through “troubled waters” on two occasions during his time at its helm. First, he had to sort out the “financial mess left by the ill-fated Scottish National Golf Centre at Drumoig,” where the £4.6M project was abandoned after losses amounted to around £1M. More recently, Grey was “initially left frustrated as a bid to amalgamate the SGU and the Scottish Ladies Golfing Association failed at the first attempt” before it was given the go-ahead just under a year ago. Grey said, “Scottish Golf in is good health and has an excellent base from which the new board can consider the future strategy for golf in Scotland. It is therefore timely for me to seek a new challenge” (SCOTSMAN, 3/7).
