German Hockey League Sets Fifth Consecutive Regular Season Attendance Record

The German Hockey League (DEL) set its fifth consecutive attendance record during the '15-16 regular season. A total of 2,419,630 spectators attended the league's 364 regular-season games. The number translates into an average attendance of 6,647 (DEL). SPONSORs' Nils Lehnebach reported the figures show an increase of about 3.5% in comparison to the previous season when an average of 6,419 spectators attended the games. The Cologne Sharks saw the biggest rise. The team averaged 12,037 spectators per game, which is about 900 more than last season. Other teams that experienced a rise include: Adler Mannheim (11,657, +358); Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers (5,315, +415); Iserlohn Roosters (4,647, +358); Red Bull Munich (4,603, +328); and Straubing Tigers (4,598, +368). The club with the biggest decrease was the Krefeld Penguins, whose attendance fell by 499 fans to an average of 4,520 (SPONSORs, 3/7).
