Real Madrid Forced To Move Forward With Drastically Different Stadium Project

It was reported that Real Madrid is in talks with Madrid City Council officials over a "new renovation" of the Santiago Bernabéu, according to J.L. Guerrero of AS. Club sources said that the news means a renovation project initially budgeted at €400M "will not be able to increase the capacity of the stadium or exponentially increase the revenue because the mall and luxury hotel proposed will not be located in La Castellana." It was reported that these additions to the stadium would have to cover no more than 6,658 square meters instead of the 12,250 that Real Madrid had originally proposed. This means the new project "will have nothing to do with the plans announced in '14 or '12" (AS, 3/7).
