Olympic Notes: UCI President Concerned About Delays To Rio 2016 Test Event

Int'l Cycling Union (UCI) President Brian Cookson said that "he is concerned about delays" to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics test event after the company responsible for providing the wooden boards was changed by Games organizers. The event "has already been pushed back two weeks," although Rio 2016 Organizing Committee President Carlos Nuzman said in London this week that "the event would go ahead on April 29-May 1." Speaking at the world track championships on Saturday, Cookson said he thought that date would be "a challenge" (REUTERS, 3/5).

Thirty-two Scottish athletes aiming to win medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics will receive sportscotland Athlete Personal Awards grants. The sports quasi non-governmental organization has set aside £192,000 ($271,576) for the first year of the two-year investment, "with the money coming from its National Lottery fund and additional investment from the Scottish government." The 32 athletes, from eight sports, "will use the funds for additional training support, competition and living expenses" (SPORTS MANAGEMENT, 3/5).
