Facility Notes: MCC Secretary Derek Brewer Expresses Doubt Over Lord's Revamp

Marylebone Cricket Club Secretary Derek Brewer expressed doubt over the £85M ($119M) rebuilding of the Tavern and Allen stands at Lord’s. Brewer said in a message to the club's membership, "To commence the south western project [for which planning permission has been granted] during an uncertain financial environment would be unwise given the scale of the redevelopment." It was hoped that work on one new structure, incorporating 5,200 seats, would start in '19 (LONDON TIMES, 3/1).

Construction work on the Kandahar cricket stadium started on Monday with the financial support of the government of India. Under its aid to ‪Afghanistan‬ the Indian government is funding $1M for the construction of the stadium. Construction work began a month after an agreement was signed between the Afghanistan Cricket Board and a private firm (KHAAMA PRESS, 2/29).
