Haas F1 Uses Social Media, Website To Release Images Of Team's First Car

Haas F1 unveiled its '16 racecar through digital media on Sunday. The U.S.-based team used its social media channels and its website to take the cover off its inaugural F1 car, called VF-16.

The car will make its track debut on Monday when the first day of preseason testing kicks off at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The VF-16 name goes back to the first CNC machine manufactured by Haas Automation, the VF-1. Haas F1 will become the first American-led team to join the series in 30 years when the lights turn off at Melbourne's Albert Park on March 20. Haas Automation, the company founded by Team Owner Gene Haas, will be the team's principal sponsor during its inaugural season. "Connecting Haas Automation with F1 in name and in practice is the best way to grow our business and elevate Haas Automation to a premium, global brand," Haas said. Other sponsors include América Móvil (Telcel/Claro) and Alpinestars.

NEW PARTNER: The released images of the car also include branding of watch brand Richard Mille. The deal with the Switzerland-based company is expected to be officially announced later this week, a team spokesperson told SBD Global. Richard Mille also has deals with McLaren-Honda and Formula E team Renault e.dams. The car's gray, red-toned livery of the VF-16 was derived from Haas Automation’s complete line of machining centers, a press release stated. Haas F1 Team Principal Guenther Steiner: "Our goal with this car is to score points." The team's drivers, Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutiérrez, also used their social media accounts to present their new ride.
