Football Notes: Tim Cahill Criticizes A-League For Lacking Vision To Attract Big Names

Australian footballer Tim Cahill "has taken a swipe at the A-League for failing to attract big-name footballers and lacking the strategy to capitalise on the few world-class players to have graced the competition." There were hopes the 36-year-old Socceroos player "would consider a switch to Australia after news broke on Tuesday that he had parted ways with his Chinese club, Shanghai Shenhua." But Cahill's agent "all but ruled out a move back home, confirming he would look to join a rival Chinese Super League side." While admitting he had often thought about playing in Australia's top flight, Cahill said that the governing body's "lack of vision for the league meant it was not an attractive option" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 2/19). ... The Ghana FA officially launched the '15-16 premier league. The 16-club league kicks off on Saturday (XINHUA, 2/18).
