Atlético Madrid Selling Roughly 30% Of Its Single-Game Tickets To Fans Outside Spain

Of the tickets that Atlético Madrid sells for its home games at the Vicente Calderón, 30% are purchased by fans outside Spain, according to F.J. Díaz of AS. This "shows the great international pull the club is beginning to have." This "has been noticed since the club began regularly playing in the Champions League." The team's home stadium has a capacity of 54,800, and with 47,500 season-ticket holders, there are around 6,000 tickets for sale for La Liga games, and more for Champions League games, "as not all fans' season tickets include Champions League games." For a game against Barcelona or Real Madrid, more than 2,000 tickets are sold to fans from outside Spain. In terms of the nationality of these foreign Atlético fans, English fans are in first place, followed by fans from Asia -- China and Japan (AS, 2/18).
