Structural Engineers Report Hagley Oval Not Damaged By Christchurch Quake

Structural engineers reported the Hagley Oval pavilion and Horncastle Arena have not been damaged "by the 5.7 magnitude aftershock that shook Christchurch on Sunday," according to Richard Knowler of STUFF. Engineers instructing Vbase, the Christchurch City Council-owned firm which manages Horncastle and Hagley Oval, said that they "are satisfied the building is safe to house fans for the performances" from Wednesday to Feb. 26. Vbase GM Darren Burden said that "engineers have also been booked to inspect AMI Stadium in Addington and expects them to have the job done by tomorrow at the latest." Burden said that Vbase was "always confident there would be no issues at Hagley Oval or Horncastle Arena." Burden: "And the engineers confirmed that was the case." Burden said that Vbase has an "earthquake procedure" which generally means that if there is any seismic activity in the city an incident controller is appointed by whoever is in charge of the venue at that time (STUFF, 2/15).
