Media Notes: Canal+ Retains IndyCar Series TV Rights For '16

French pay-TV channel Canal+ “retained the rights to the IndyCar Series” for ’16. The season “starts March 13 on Canal+ Sport” in St. Petersburg, Florida. Since last year, the channel has broadcasted the American championship “in the early evening because of the time difference” (MEDIA SPORTIF, 2/9). ... Czech broadcaster Nová Digi has become the latest int'l operator to "snap up the media rights to the English Premier League," in a three-year package from the '16-17 season until the end of '18-19. Lama Energy Group-owned Nová Digi, which offers its services in both the Czech Republic and neighboring Slovakia, "has been a long-standing television broadcast partner of the Premier League" (SOCCEREX, 2/10). ... Eleven Sports Network signed an agreement with Grupa WP to distribute clips of premium sports content from its Eleven and Eleven Sports channels in Poland. The agreement ensures Eleven Sports Network's content will be available on one of the leading online media platforms in Poland to millions of sports fans, via Grupa WP's desktop and mobile services (Eleven Sports). ... Fox Sports announced on Tuesday that it will televise the "much awaited" FIFA presidential election on Feb. 26 with six straight hours of coverage "in the wee hours of the morning." Fox Sports 1 will show the election process from 3am all the way to 9am. A six-hour block "will be anchored by Rob Stone" in Fox's studios in L.A. He will "be joined in-studio by Alexi Lalas and Mark Young." Meanwhile, Sky Sports' Kate Abdo and Fox's Grant Wahl "will provide coverage on-location in Zurich, Switzerland" (STARS AND STRIPES FC, 2/9). ... GolTV secured exclusive broadcast rights with Venezuela’s first division football league Liga Venezolana. Under the new multi-year agreement, GolTV will have the exclusive U.S. broadcast rights to the best match of the week, plus a weekly highlights program featuring all of the league’s teams and match results (GoITV).
